Michelle Kommer, effective owner of HighRoad Partners on October 1, will be speaking at 1 Million Cups on September 23 at the Scherling Tennis Court Complex in Island Park from 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
About Michelle
Michelle Kommer attended Mayville State University, University of Mary, and UND School of Law! Michelle is an introvert but loves to help people! She explains, “I firmly believe that I was born to help other people be successful. To realize their potential. To do more than they ever thought possible.” Michelle has three daughters, has tried to escape HR twice and failed, and she’s a systems geek! Michelle enjoys going to work every day because she gets to help small businesses succeed and individuals live their healthiest lives.
About HighRoad Partners
HighRoad Partners was originally founded by Tammy Halverson and Michelle will be transitioning as the new owner, effective on October 1 of this year. Michelle expands, “Tammy and I will get to work together to ensure a seamless transition for clients (and a lot of learning for Michelle) over the next 18 months. The transaction came together because we have common values – namely – putting the client’s needs first.” HighRoad Partners serves small employers and individuals to meet health insurance needs and so much more.
Michelle was presented with the opportunity to name the company and she didn’t take this task lightly. Michelle explains, “The name “HighRoad Partners” has deep meaning for me. Over my career, but in the past 4 years of public service in particular, I’ve been challenged in a number of ways – some of which made me want to fight. Ugly fight. (And in my defense, I think some of that was justified.) But in hard times, because of the help of mentors over the years, I instead asked myself two questions: First, “What am I learning from this?”; and second, “How can I behave in a way that I’ll be proud of 20 years from now…or in a way my mom and dad, or my daughters, would be proud of… today?” I have developed this anthem over the years – “take the high road – the view is better.” Plus, the “H” and “R” sit next to each other which represents what they do! HighRoad Partners was brought about because they saw a need in the marketplace for smaller companies to have expert resources to support them at a reasonable price that creates great value.
Event Details
Michelle Kommer will be speaking at 1 Million Cups on September 23 at the Scherling Tennis Court Complex in Island Park from 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. She will be highlighting what HighRoads Partners is all about and how they help small businesses and individuals. She thinks it’s important to speak at events like 1 Million Cups because she wouldn’t have made the leap if it wasn’t for the inspiration she received from the Fargo entrepreneurial community. Michelle expands, “It’s been like a woodpecker at my head, (except in a WAY more loving and less painful way) for several years. If our community – Emerging Prairie, 1MC – EVER wonder if their work matters – let me assure you it does. I would not be here if not for you.”
