Fargo’s tech startup scene is growing, no doubt about it, but the city is also home to some mega-giants in the tech industry that are also seeing some growth. Recently, Microsoft confirmed that they are boosting their sales and marketing teams across the United States, including a large hiring effort on their Fargo campus.
“We’re adding new people and upgrading facilities here at our Fargo campus,” said Katie Hasbargen, senior communications manager for Microsoft in Fargo, in a Fargo Forum article.
The hiring boost comes less than a year after Microsoft laid off many of its workers in Fargo last July and September.
Never fear, everyone out there who’s scrounging for software developers; this hiring boost is focusing on sales and marketing. The job listings on Microsoft’s website include positions like Technical Sales Manager and Sales Development Specialist. According to Prairie Business, the tech giant could be hiring up to 200 new positions.
The hiring will help fill a newly upgraded sales division in Fargo, a facility that Microsoft’s website describes as a “state of the art sales center.”
The Fargo campus was chosen to receive the upgrade after winning an internal competition with other Microsoft locations, according to Jim Gartin, president of the Greater Fargo Moorhead Development Corp.
Some of the job descriptions require a college degree, others look for 0-3 years of experience. The hiring is good news for local college students from North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University of Moorhead and Concordia College.
“Are you passionate about new technologies?” Microsoft asks, in a description for sales development. “Does the opportunity to work with customers to solve their toughest technological and business challenges make you tick?…Microsoft’s Marketing and Sales Center is looking for you!”
