Meet Chris, one of 13 students in the first cohort at Emerging Digital Academy (EDA).
Chris grew up right here in Fargo, North Dakota, and has always considered it his home. He loves the simplicity that the Fargo-Moorhead community brings, and wants to begin his career here as well. He graduated with a GED, and never had the chance for the traditional college experience. Because of that getting into the professional industry proved to be a challenge.
All of Chris’ previous knowledge of web engineering is self-taught, which is an accomplishment he’s incredibly proud of. Giving up wasn’t an option for him, and his drive and self-determination led him to EDA.
WHY EDA?
“I’ve been familiar with coding bootcamps before and know the success they can bring, sadly I also know the risk as well.” Shared Chris. “EDA is based on a very successful program in Minneapolis called Prime Academy which gives EDA a lot of credibility. On top of that it’s based in Fargo which is not only where I plan to call home for the rest of my life, but the job market here is booming. There will always be risk involved but I believe what EDA has to offer over other coding schools allows me to feel like it’s a safe risk to take.”
Chris has a passion for programming, but admits that there’s a gap in his knowledge. He his hoping his time at EDA will fill that gap, as well as expose him to more professional development opportunities. Since starting tier 2 of the program, he’s realized just how deep web engineering can be. He’s continually fascinated by it, and gets more and more excited by the day.
“I’m looking forward to starting a career that I have waited many years to start. I can’t wait to be a professional in a field I love. I can’t wait to take advantage of opportunities I have waited a long time for and have spent many waking nights striving for. I’m excited to see the fruits of my labor come to completion.” Christ stated.
After graduation, Chris hopes to work at a local company here in Fargo and establish a solid career path. He really values a good company culture and strong morals, as well as a solid mission and focus on business growth and professional development.
