It’s that time again! Startup Drinks is coming up on June 16, and it will be held at 122 1/2 N Broadway – formerly CoCo, now being called The Prairie Den. The space is not officially open yet, so this is a chance to get a sneak peek at the process!
That said, we also have a solid group of Startup Drinks Captains we’d like to introduce to you before the event. Kicking off our Meet the Captain series is the one and only, Alec “Al” Winmill, Marketing guru for local drone industry startup, Botlink LLC.
Take it away, Al.
Alec “Al” Winmill: The Bearded Wonder
1. Do you have a nickname? If so, what is it?
It’s usually just Al (short for Alec). I refer to Alec as my “fancy name”.
2. Any awkward tattoos? Please describe in detail.<
No tats for me. I think about the future quite a bit, and future me with saggy tattoos is not something I’m interested in.
3. If you could describe your startup as an animal what animal would it be?
Botlink is currently reminding me of a hedgehog, because we have been on a roll like Sonic and things are moving fast and we pick up coins and are really spikey and are available on the SEGA game gear platform.
4. What is one of the most influential books you’ve ever read?
Meateater by Steven Rinella blew my mind as an outdoorsman. Changed my way of thinking about many things I care about.
5. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
I’d definitely head to Ireland if I had the chance. It’s a 6 and a half hour flight from NYC to Dublin – ridiculous to think about how close we are to the Guinness Storehouse, Jameson Distillery and tons of ridiculous scenery.
6. What is one the coolest places you’ve traveled?
Rotorua on the North Island of New Zealand was incredible. It’s one of the most geothermally active spots in the world with geysers, hot springs and bubbling mud pools – the whole area smells like sulfur (not as bad as it sounds) and is set in some of the most gorgeous landscapes I’ve ever seen.
Thanks Mr. Winmill. See you at Startup Drinks!
