Hey Fargoans! Every morning at 1 Million Cups Fargo we have time for announcements, and there are always quite a few. In the hopes of keeping everyone informed, whether you were at the event or not, we’re going to start giving a re-cap of bigger announcements from the morning. We’re trying this out for a bit, so let us know if you find it helpful!

Startup Drinks is Tonight
When: February 18 (tonight), 5:30-7 PM
Where: Boerth’s Art Gallery

UAS Industry Expo and Demo Day
When: June 17 – 18, 2015
Where: TBA
What: Shawn Muehler from Botlink and Greg Tehven from Emerging Prairie are currently planning a huge drone expo day, where leaders from the UAS industry can gather and report on how they are progressing. The expo will be followed by a demo day, where people can show off their drones. Guests are to be confirmed, but one confirmed guest is Lisa Ellman, a former law student of President Obama (that’s Professor Obama, to her), who is now hailed as the “Queen of the Drones” for her work with UAS policies. This could potentially be the biggest UAS expo in the world.
TEDxFargo wants to hear your ideas worth sharing
When: Wednesday, March 25, 9:15 AM
Where: The Stage at Island Park
What: In replacement of 1 Million Cups, anyone interested in speaking at TEDx will be given the chance to present a 2-minute pitch (what Dr. Sue calls an “Open-Mic Morning”). The speakers will be voted on with the winners given a chance to speak at TEDxFargo on July 23.
Fargo Startup Weekend 75% Full
When: March 27 – 29, 2015
Where: Begins at Offut Schools of Business, Concordia College
What : Sign up now for Fargo Startup Weekend – they are especially looking now for more technical applicants like developers and designers (non-technical spots are full!). Don’t forget to sign up for the Sunday night after-party as well! Register today, here.
Research in STEM at NDSU
When: Tuesday, February 24 @ 10 AM – 5 PM
Where: Main Library – Weber Reading Room
What: NDSU is hosting an all-day event to talk about STEM research at NDSU. There will be booths set up and a series of lightning talks. At 4 PM, rumor has it that Dr. Wells will be giving a talk as well.
Emerging Leaders program now accepting applications
When: Apply Now! (The program begins in April)
What: The North Dakota District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration is now accepting applications for the 2015 Emerging Leaders program in Fargo. They are offering executive level training course that consists of 13 sessions and will last for 7 months. For anyone interested in taking their business to the next level. More info here.
Innovation Challenge Awards next week + free lunch
When: February 26, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Where: Fargodome
What: Join us next Thursday afternoon to see which 3 teams in NDSU’s Innovation Challenge will go home with a total of $20,000 in cash prizes. Free lunch will be served. Sign up today, here!
Sunday Skate-Up
When: Febraury 22, 7:00 PM
Where: Skateland
What: Join the Fargo Skate-up team for some good ol’fashioned roller-skating fun. Last time was 80’s, so this time they’re kicking it up to 90’s style. From the event: “Bring your Nirvana and Pearl Jam costumes and get ready for sonic stylings to match.“

Crafty Networking Brewery Tour
When: February 28, 1:00 – 5:00 PM
Where: Meeting in the parking lot of the OB
What: Chance to meet new peeps while taking a bus from brewery to brewery in the F-M area. Sign up here!
How can local universities help you?
After a “Dinner with the Presidents” meeting with all the presidents of the tri-college area (NDSU, MSUM and Concordia College), these schools are more eager than ever to help out local entrepreneurs and startups.
